Well, 1, I wasn't giving him anything that needs a "break", I've actually been a vocal defender of David's, especially around the paperclip thing.  And 2, I'm not talking about him financially supporting the site, I don't care if he pays for it or not.  And I think disdain is appropriately used, and I did say *borderline*.  it just doesn't make sense to me.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as dismissive of your opinion, I was just sharing mine as well.

It is frustating that he prefers the Facebook group over this site, where he has a dedicated audience. If he wanted a PETSCII Robots forum, that's one click away. Planet X forum? One click away. However, that's his decision to make, and I certainly don't want to tell David or anyone else how to run a media empire. ?

I've actually thought about building discussion areas where we could discuss various retro-tubers... I have a few ideas for new topic areas to expand the conversation beyond just the one computer (and probably to consolidate some of the topic areas that aren't being used now.) If anyone has any suggestions  about that, feel free to throw them in the new thread on the Website Feedback and Support area.

Personally, I just see the site, forum, and X16 project evolving as time goes on. Maybe not in the same way some may want, as opinions are personal and different, but in the way it all has to evolve so it can continue to exist.

I came here becasue the X16, @The 8-Bit Guy and @Perifracticlead me here, but I stay becasue of the people I met here, and the fantastic interactions with like minded retro enthusiasts. This is the first "retro" forum I have ever actively participated in, and is the only forum I am currently active in. Outside of support for Pi/Arduino stuff on their forums that is. Since I left the world of social media behind many years ago, this is where I choose to "hang out".

That being said, congrats to everyone taking up the mantle to help keep the forums going! ?

I think this is true for many, perhaps most of us. I know it is for me, and it's why I volunteered to help if I could. I don't want to see the forum disappear. I don't mind using other social media, but this is a far more useful for the community due to it being indexed by search engines and easier to find info than on FB. So FB has its place, but so does this forum.

That being said, I appreciate people have to make their own decisions as to where they spend their time. FB has a lot of eyes just like YT, so it makes sense to be there as well.

Most definitely, if you want exposure, FB and YT are a must these days. YT is a fantastic resource for countless things, for both the content creator and consumer of that content. FB is excellent for easy interactions with your base since most everyone uses it.

I just choose to consume information where I find it, but only interact on forums. I guess I am just old school. Forums are more my pace, always have been. Also, I tend to lurk on here more than I post, I often save the posting until time permits. ?

Having talked with David a lot over the last few months, I don't think disdain is the right word. I think it is a matter of he's already invested "five figures" in the project trying to push x16 up the hill. Checking the price for the Invision forum software shows that it is not cheap.

It's not a matter of disdain for the site, it is a matter of making decisions on where to best spend his money. He might come to a different decision than others would, but it's his money to decide how to spend.

Not to take anything away from David, but I was under the impression that it has been Perifractic that has paid 100% for this site, forum and forum software.

That is correct. I mentioned what I did because of the disdain comment, inferring incorrectly that the belief was disdain was related to payment to continue to the forum. That has subsequently been clarified. All I can add to it is that the reason for not using the forum more on David's part is a lack of time to add yet another website to his daily activity. He does come here when he perceives a big enough reason to do so, but that's not daily.

Now that we have active admin and moderation in progress again, I am hopeful we can fill in the role that many have expressed frustration with, namely that "official" information isn't presented here. It may not be first still, but an admin posting an official announcement to an official forum with a reference to the original location the information originated will hopefully alleviate some of the problem. As we get closer to a real launch of hardware, things will pick up, it's just slow now due to supply chain issues. It's not like a lot of new information is being presented anywhere at the moment.

Is there a place other than here and the FB group where official information may be announced? I try to follow both and didn't think the FB group was any better.
