Best SNES Controller?

Post by thetraintomars »

I just ordered an inexpensive pair of SNES clone controllers through an eBay sell to use with PETSCII Robots on my C64.  I've noticed that both are really glitchy and don't always send data to the computer, or at least the game often becomes unresponsive with the controllers.  Is there a good source for recently made, higher quality controllers?

Best SNES Controller?

Yes, I have a couple of the 8BitDo controllers.  I don't have that clear one (that's very nice looking), but I am happy with the ones I've had.

Best SNES Controller?

8BitDo are my goto, specifically the SN30 Pro's. A bit pricey, but the best SNES style controllers I have ever used, and I tried a lot.

I got the wired ones, I just don't care for wireless. ?

But, these are USB, so I assume you need the SNES connector, so the ones @SlithyMatt linked are your best choice in my personal opinion.

Best SNES Controller?

Thanks everyone! I'll try the wireless one (since it has the right connector).  I'd like to eventually develop for the X16 so I don't mind paying a bit extra for nicer hardware.  Now I just need to find a Slik Stik clone for Fix It Felix...

Thanks for the information. Will these work with the X16 emulator, when connected to a PC via an adapter, such as:

https://www.amazon.com/Tomee-SNES-USB-C ... 741&sr=8-3

I'm looking to make use of a pair of controllers for X16, while using the emulator, until the X16 hardware is available. Bottom line: do game controllers work with the emulator?

I'm in the process of building a SNES arcade stick for my Uzebox which I'd love to use on the X16 too if I'm ever lucky enough to get one. I've ordered the components. I'll post more details with pics when its done.

What board are you using? Or did you disassemble a controller and solder onto the contacts?

I have two arcade sticks, and I would not mind taking one apart to use for this - that's actually why I bought it - to modify for retro/vintage systems.

I'm going to be using the PCB from a clone SNES pad. I've not thought how I'm going to mount it yet. I'm still waiting for my parts to arrive.

Personally I love these two controllers:
