Try it now! in Downloads section
On the old web site we had "Try it now!" possibility for most Commander X16 programs and now we have the R42 emulator in the browser on https://www.commanderx16.com/webemu/x16emu.html , but it is difficult to try the programs in that. Is there a way to get the "Try it now!" functionality again, e.g. by writing a special link that loads the zip-file into the web emulator?
Re: Try it now! in Downloads section
One item is that most of the programs available when the "Try it Now" feature was online were written for the R38 version of the emulator. Changes in VERA and other aspects of the X16 platform in the current release (R42) means that the library of applications (R38) just won't run properly on R42 now.
Given it's all just software, there probably is a way to get the "Try it Now" working with programs that are written for the R42 release. The question becomes the amount of effort, availability and priority the volunteers who can make it happen. They are doing what they believe is the right thing, and I support their efforts.
If you poke around the forum a little more, you'll see past threads discussing this topic. Please take the time to read them, this frees the administration to work on tasks rather than repeat themselves.
I'd suggest moving to a local copy of the emulator, reviewing the collection of software that was written for that revision and working/running/playing with it there. I have R38 running locally for the games I like and will be setting up an R42 emulator in the near future. When real X16 hardware starts to ship I'll be placing my order...

Re: Try it now! in Downloads section
It's possible in theory, but I don't think any of the folks who know enough to make those changes really have the time to spare to dedicated to that. They're either writing programs for the X16, working on the hardware, or working on the official emulator.mobluse wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 5:29 pm On the old web site we had "Try it now!" possibility for most Commander X16 programs and now we have the R42 emulator in the browser on https://www.commanderx16.com/webemu/x16emu.html , but it is difficult to try the programs in that. This is kind of how it goes with volunteer projects; people do something once because it's fun, but they don't really have the time or inclination to treat it like a job and spend hours maintaining it forever. It's a little like having a second job. That you don't get paid for.

Good news!
We added "Try It Now" feature.
Here is a zip file with program as forum attachment:
And here is a link that runs this program from this same attachment: Try It Now!
How to do this described here: /forum/viewtopic.php?t=6452

Re: Try it now! in Downloads section
Thanks! I test it here with my first published program for the Commander X16: Aritm. It's now updated to work in R43 compared to the one in the Archive; I added the manifest.

Try It Now!Aritm has been fixed to work in x16emu R43 and thus in the web emulator, see
