Good afternoon from the UK

Post by Ian »

Hello everyone

I have just registered with the forum

Currently playing around with assembler code in the x16 emulator

Can't wait to be able to purchase a physical board

Do we have any news on when they may become available?

Cheers Ian

Welcome, ian.

Lots of us are waiting for the official release of the boards; the last word from Kevin was that the boards promised to crowdfunding backers are being shipped now, and the remaining boards (80 or so) are going through the final assembly process. This involves attaching VERA and making some minor changes to the board to account for a couple of design changes since the boards were first fabricated.

I'd expect to see an announcement sometime in the next couple of weeks. We will be posting about it here when we get confirmation that the boards are for sale, but we don't have any more information at this time.

As of 1300Hrs UTC (GMT) today they have been sold out.

Note that while these units were intended to be as close to the final production unit as possible, they are "beta" devices meant for those wanting & willing to take on the risk that the final production version may be slightly different. The production Gen 1 board is estimated to run at $350 US when shipped, and other lower-cost generations (different hardware/form factor) may be in the works.

From https://texelec.com/product/cx16-devboard-bundle/

"The current hardware is either complete, or nearly complete in design and pinout today. We do not anticipate any further changes, however, it cannot be completely ruled out. The board already contains three modifications from its original design, and it is possible more issues could be discovered before the official launch later this year. For example, a hardware modification could be required to make the system compatible with later system ROM updates, or the production version of the board. Please be aware of the risks, this system is meant for those folks who like to get their hands dirty if necessary and to help pave the way for as bug free of a launch as possible."

You're welcome. The announcement was on the home page of the site and I believe in the FB group too, which I didn't see until there was under 25 left. I read through the disclaimers and made my decision to wait for the production GEN 1 unit.

Of course, in 20 years time the GEN1 dev units hopefully will be as valuable as Apple 1 machines are today. I'll regret not buying one then; a few more months (possibly?) of wait won't kill me for a machine based in the "8 bitties."

I'm getting one to have fun on the system.

Its not written in Stone..... But if Kevin is selling them sequentially, I'm DEV 00040 - DEV00050 .

I'll say how far I'm off when I get my board....
