where to POST LIFE.
I've got my LIFE program in BASIC done for the time being. I want to put the final version
somewhere in DOWNLOADS but I'm at a loss whether it belongs in GAMES or DEMOS.

If you can interact with it and it has gaming elements (skill, memory, scoring, whatever) it's a game.
If it's "just" conway's "game" of life (never understood why that is called Game) it's a demo imo. or "misc"...

Conway's game of life is more of a software toy or a zen garden, which I think would classify as a game if there isn't a more distinct category.
"Demo" to me either means a demoscene demo that's designed to demonstrate hardware capabilities or techniques (they're not usually games), or means something incomplete but complete enough to give an idea of what the completed thing will be. Both have dedicated forums here.
Wherever you put it, just make sure it's clearly "Conway's" game of life.
