A first rudimentary version of something that resembles Tempest. Written and compiled with nxtBasic.

Nice. I was disappointed that I ran out of bullets and was left to just wander around and avoid being shot. Is that in the original arcade version? It always seemed to me that I could shoot as much as I wanted, but only do a 'zap the entire grid' once a level.

Correct. Tempest was my favorite arcade game back in the '80s. Got pretty good, too. There's two or three online versions you can play, but the UE isn't very good, IMO; You really need the dial to do it justice.
