Hi from Minnesota

Post by Jeff Spain »

I fell in love with the c64 in 1986. I had taken courses in BASIC and COBOL in college and was so glad to have a home computer I could write my own programs on. I started programming games in basic and soon switched to Assembly for fast machine language execution.  I purchased 2xc64, and a 128. In addition I had 4 disk drives and two monitors. I used them daily from 1986 to 1992. The commodore community was strong and we had several local commodore groups just in my home town of Minneapolis. Time progressed, the local groups disappeared and new machines took over.  The Amiga and PC were more powerful, but less useful for programming my own things.  Life marches on and I put away the 8 bit world years ago.

Then a miracle happened, I discovered the 8-bit guy and a community of 8 bit coders.  I had long disposed of my old computers and immediately started buying old c64s. I could write code again!  However, much of the used equipment did not last for very long and the old 8 bit machines are just worn out. I was astonished to see the c64 mini.  I was happy to purchase the c64 mini and c64 Maxi, life is fun again.

These days I am semi-retired with lots of time on my hands, I would love a new 8 bit machine that I could write fun programs for and recreate the joy of an open system where you can create anything. I also miss the large community of people that we had for the 8 bit machines in the 1980s. Hoping we can bring some of that back. I look forward to buying the Commander X16 and all the games I am going to write for it.
