What I like about the tape discussion is that there's no reason why the audio input would have to be an actual cassette tape, e.g. you could distribute software via YouTube videos (played on PC or smartphone). Though that would be best with a loader that can fill banked RAM and VRAM as well, even if doing so means it takes an hour to load. The anticipation!
And we could change the protocol, where actual musical tones could be used instead of fax-modem-like-noises. Of course, the X16 has no standard audio input. Maybe the gamepad3/4 ports could be re-purposed for that, a little plug in module?

I did a lengthy article about using the tape cassette on the IBM PC 5150. There are Python scripts to adapt a data-file into a WAV file, which yes can play from another PC or your phone. The volume-setting is still sensitive sometimes.

This is known as "bumping" a thread, and it's not considered good netiquette.

There are no plans for a CD-ROM add-on, officially or otherwise. If you want a CD-ROM interface for the X16, you'll have to make it yourself.

Since this thread has run to its conclusion, I'm going to go ahead and lock it, now.
