Clarity of purpose: why do YOU want the X16?

Post by Amy Worrall »

Following the extensive discussion on the project's slight change of direction, I'm curious to know which aspects of the X16 attract you most.

(Obviously this is an unofficial poll -- I'm just interested, I'm not necessarily expecting David to even read this let alone have it shape the project direction.)

Too bad the first question is just averaging everything, just look at the number of votes for each one in order to see the interest in each part.

That's a data point in itself I guess… that different people are interested in the project for a multitude of reasons. Still, let's wait for more votes before drawing conclusions!

The percentage isn't meaningful, since the display assumes a single option poll, but the relative size of the bars is meaningful.

I’m writing games in C.  Does that count as BASIC or assembly?  XD

While I totally grok FPGAs, I prefer not to see them.   HOWEVER, I have fewer compunctions against a CPLD, even though it limits hardware hackability.

I really need to do something with my Nexys 4 DDR. I love the idea of FPGA, but I get that it limits hardware hacking.

I think the MEGA65 was using that critter early on...

They were. I'd like to create a 65816 based soft machine with all the RAM and ROM. Given that it includes 128 MiB of DDR and almost 600 KiB of fast block RAM, there would be no shortage of RAM to have a fully populated memory map, plus extra for bank switching at 64 KiB granularity, plus more for video RAM and audio RAM and I just wish I had more hours in the day. ? I figure I could borrow a lot of components from MiSTer projects and start gluing them together.
