By no means am I expecting people to want to use a disk drive with the X16, but I'm still curious; among the various disk drives that would work with the X16, what would be the least impractical one to aim for, in terms of availability of the drive itself, plus availability of the disks?
I'd think 1541s are plentiful, but the actual 5.25" disks would be an issue. On the other hand, 3.5" disks are probably more readily available, but how common are 1581s? Maybe they're both no-gos?
Before anyone asks, anything I make myself is going to work from the SD card just fine, it's just that at some point, I wanted to experiment with writing something that could work from one or more disks, just to see what it's like since it's something I never got to do.
Floppy disks?
Re: Floppy disks?
It's a hard call, but I'm willing to bet 5.25" diskettes are still easier to find and likely to last longer than 3.5" diskettes. Also, 1541 drives are far easier to get. I can go find a working 1541 on EBay right now for less than $60, but a 1581 would be several times that price, if I could even find one.
