GalaX16

Post by Roy Eltham »

GalaX16 is a arcade space shooter inspired by Galaga. It is written in prog8 (with a smidge of inline asm).

I'm still developing this, but it is a playable game now, so give it a try.

For the Try It Now! link the keyboard controls are:
start -> enter key
left/right -> arrow keys
fire -> ctrl

Try It Now!

Wow, yes, very playable! I've always wondered how the waves of patterns (of opponents) in encoded in these games.

I've also wondered how "self demo play" was encoded in these early games (most arcade games had a timeout that would kick off a self-play demo, which I always assumed they just pre-recorded a keyboard input sequence?).

Also curious how the opponents don't start attacking until they are all lined up. My back story on that has always been the aliens are from an alternate universe where the British won, and so they kept that style of stoically lining up and then marching on their opponents. So it's a culture thing, to prove their bravery running around in circles in front of your opponent, before getting into formation :P

Looking forward to updates and bosses-encounters!

Thanks guys!

Xiphod, I like your story about why they do the formation. lol

There's a lot more to add in the gameplay. There's going to be a travelling type level, and the challenge levels. Plus power ups.
