General - CX16 Error 200 Tech BBS - HELP Grow The BBS File Repository

Post by Raven67854 »

Hello Everyone,

I've run a BBS for some time now and after having joined the X16 community on the Discord. There has been some discussion of possibly setting up an official BBS for the X16. In the meantime I've setup a files/message area on my BBS related specifically to the X16. Feel free to upload your programs, art, music etc to the BBS. Eventually I am hoping by the time the networking card(s) that are in development are done the BBS will be full of some programs.

The BBS also has some door games(with more coming). The BBS also connects to an IRC and anyone is welcome to join from there.

The BBS currently requires an ANSI compliant terminal. I am working on a pure ASCII theme. This will work much better on the current terminal being made. Though ANSI support is being worked on I do believe.

How To Upload A File To The BBS
- Create an account
- Navigate the Files Area From the Main Menu F
- At the bottom near the Command -> Prompt. Just above it you will see File Group and File Area.
- Change the File Group and then the File Area within the group for where you wish to upload the file.
- Then hit U to upload the files. Depending on which BBS terminal you are using the location for where it downloads/uploads files will vary. By default for example SynctTerm uses the Downloads folder.
- After hitting U you will be given a list of available protocols. Hit Z for ZModem it is the fastest and most reliable method.
- Then press ENTER at the next prompt. This will then open up a window where you can select your file. Upon selecting the file upload will begin.
- Once upload has been completed you will be given the opportunity to add a file description if the BBS cannot find a FILE_ID.DIZ.

FILE_ID.DIZ
Creating a FILE_ID.DIZ let's the BBS provide a description for your archive. If you are just uploading a single file then you may use the description feature which the BBS will provide after upload has succeeded. However if you are uploading an archive such a ZIP file then please provide a FILE_ID.DIZ in the root directory of your ZIP.

FILE_ID.DIZ Specifications
Columns - 50 characters
Rows/Lines - Max of 15

Example of FILE_ID.DIZ

Code: Select all

The Crisp-Muzik-Pak Vol. I
Featuring amazing music for the Commander X16
in ZSM format.
Soundtracks from Hangman, Maze Masin, Pixeus,
Vault Of The Vindicator, Warlocks Dungeons

Users might also look at ExtraPutty: https://sourceforge.net/projects/extraputty/

I've been using this for several years now, as it's a flexible terminal with Telnet, SSH, and serial connectivity - as well as things like XModem file transfer.
